In 2022, I conducted an experiment to measure the impact of inflation on supermarket prices, using a simple stir-fry recipe as a test. The results were surprising, with some items significantly cheaper than four years ago, while others had increased dramatically. Despite the overall basket price remaining stable, the true impact of the cost of living crisis may be yet to come, with rising fuel prices and other operational costs putting pressure on retail prices. The government is taking steps to address the issue, but the future remains uncertain for Australian households.
